Breathing Music

In this installation, the breathing sounds of four participants, recorded through stethoscopes, are replayed through DC motors. Recording Participants are instructed to synchronize or desynchronize their breathing in three compositions. Each participant acts simultaneously as a receiver (sensing the breath of the person in front) and as a transmitter (conveying their breath to the person behind). These individual breathing sounds are played back through DC motors. The alternating audio signals make the motors vibrate. The sound from the motors is very faint, but these movements amplified through hangers and clothes, which I borrowed from the participants. You can touch the clothes to feel the vibration of their breathing and also listen to it through the stethoscope hunged in the middle of four clothes.

４着の衣服を介して、その持ち主の呼吸音を聴くインスタレーション作品。
４人のパフォーマーは互いに身体を触れ合わせながら、それぞれの呼吸を同期させようと試みる。その様子は、マイクを内蔵した聴診器で録音された。 音声はアンプによって電気信号として増幅され、DCモーターに入力される。これにより、呼吸に応じた振動がモーターから生じ、その振動は接続されたハンガーを通じて衣服へと伝達される。 鑑賞者は衣服に触れたり、用意された聴診器を当てることで、パフォーマーの呼吸を追体験できる。
日常的に無意識で行われる呼吸という身体の振動と音に着目し、それを衣服という身近なメディアを通じて知覚することで、身体感覚の曖昧さや、４人の呼吸が組み合わさることで生まれる混沌としたリズムを体感することができる。
